Samsung Tri-Fold: July Tease, October Launch
Samsung’s long-rumored “tri-fold” smartphone finally has a clear launch timeline! According to leaks, the device—likely named the Galaxy G Fold—will be unveiled at Samsung’s July 9 Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Watch 8 series. But unlike those devices (due in August), the Samsung tri-fold won’t ship until October, mirroring the Galaxy S25 Edge’s staggered release earlier this year.
This dual-hinge Samsung tri-fold is set to revolutionize big-screen portability. It unfolds in a Z-shaped zig-zag motion to reveal a massive 9.9-inch display—dwarfing the Z Fold 6’s 7.6-inch screen 27. Expect “Project Moohan“, Samsung’s Android XR headset, to share the October spotlight, hinting at a broader ecosystem push.
Limited Reach, Premium Price
Sadly, this innovation won’t be widely available. Like 2024’s Galaxy Z Fold SE, the Samsung tri-fold will launch exclusively in South Korea and China. GSM Arena’s database lists model numbers SM-F968N (Korea) and SM-F9680 (China), confirming the regional focus.
Pricing will match its ambition: sources peg it at $3,000–$3,500 (₹2.56–₹2.99 lakh), making it nearly double the cost of the Z Fold 7. Production will be capped at 200,000–300,000 units, reflecting Samsung’s cautious approach to its first multi-fold device.
Why the Hype?
Samsung hasn’t debuted a new form factor since 2020, making this a pivotal moment. During its Q1 2025 earnings call, Samsung teased “form factor innovation” and emphasized “large-screen experiences for Fold”—clear nods to the tri-fold. With rivals like Huawei already testing tri-folds, Samsung aims to reclaim foldable leadership.
Pre-orders for July’s Unpacked lineup are open now, but the Samsung tri-fold remains a tantalizing October promise. For now, global fans can only hope future iterations expand beyond Asia.
