Alongside the Watch8 launch, Samsung will also open a beta testing program for the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch7 Ultra. This beta phase will allow select users to try out One UI 8 Watch early and share feedback ahead of the official stable release
After the Beta Program, Samsung will begin rolling out the stable One UI 8 Watch update to the Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch5 series. This ensures that older Galaxy smartwatches also receive the latest Wear OS 6 features, performance improvements, and software enhancements, keeping them up-to-date and competitive
The eligibility of the Galaxy Watch4 and Watch4 Classic for the One UI 8 Watch update remains uncertain. These smartwatches, launched in 2021, were promised four years of software support, which officially ends in August 2025. If the stable update rolls out after that deadline, the Watch4 series might not receive the upgrade.
Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch rollout begins in July 2025 with the Galaxy Watch8 series, followed by the Watch7, Watch7 Ultra, Watch6, and Watch5. While the future of the Watch4 is still unclear, all confirmed eligible models will benefit from the latest Wear OS 6 features, performance boosts, and UI enhancements designed to improve the overall Galaxy smartwatch experience.
From Tizen to Wear OS with One UI Watch: Samsung’s Smartwatch Evolution
Samsung’s transition to Wear OS started with the launch of the Galaxy Watch4 in 2021, marking a shift from its in-house Tizen OS to a more advanced, unified platform built in collaboration with Google. With the arrival of One UI 8 Watch, this update may be the final major software upgrade for older models like the Galaxy Watch4, as their official support period nears its end
The upcoming Wear OS update is expected to introduce major changes, including the replacement of Google Assistant with Gemini AI for smarter and more advanced voice interactions. Additionally, Samsung Health may gain a new antioxidant index feature to enhance health tracking. The user interface is also rumored to get a visual upgrade with the addition of the Now Bar, providing quick access to essential information at a glance.
Samsung will certainly build its own improvements into One UI 8 Watch, with user interface changes that align with its overall One UI look and feel across its mobile portfolio. The company may also bring additional features, but details on that remain slim at this point in time
We may come to know about them next month when the company launches the Galaxy Watch 8 series at its Unpacked event. Perhaps it may also confirm when existing devices will receive the One UI 8 Watch update
