Galaxy S26+ was briefly positioned to be something more than Samsung’s forgettable middle child. For a short time, the company reportedly considered giving it the display technology developed for the now-canceled Galaxy S26 Edge. That move alone could have justified the Plus model’s existence.
Then Samsung changed its mind.
Instead of taking advantage of the Edge’s unused hardware, Samsung chose to play it safe. The S26+ is now expected to ship with a 6.66-inch flat display that’s nearly identical to the one found on the Galaxy S25+. On paper, it’s a copy-paste decision.

Galaxy S26+ Missed the Edge Display Opportunity
This isn’t a case of Samsung lacking options. The display work was already done, the investment already made. Folding that panel into the Galaxy S26+ would have been the easiest way to add value without reinventing the phone.
But risk avoidance won.
Samsung reportedly shut down the Galaxy S26 Edge project around October, and Galaxy S26+ production began shortly after. Rather than adjust timelines or push innovation, the company opted for familiarity — a choice that makes financial sense but weakens the lineup.
Once again, meaningful upgrades are being saved for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Features like the rumored Privacy Display remain locked behind the most expensive model, leaving the Plus stuck in a no-man’s-land between “good enough” and “not worth upgrading.”
Production numbers tell the same story. Samsung is reportedly planning 600,000 Galaxy S26+ units this cycle, compared to 3.6 million Ultra units. The message is clear: the Plus isn’t the star.
The Galaxy S26+ probably won’t be bad. It just won’t be exciting. And for a phone that almost inherited the Edge’s one standout feature, that’s a missed opportunity Samsung didn’t have to miss.
